FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MUCH DOES THERAPY COST?

Payments can be made by cash, check or credit card. I take Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance. If you do not have this insurance carrier, my fee is $175 per hour.  If you are unsure what your insurance company will pay for mental health services, call your insurance company to find out how many mental health sessions are allowed per year.  You should also ask if you need to first meet a deductible and, if so, how much is the deductible.

HOW DO I START SERVICES?

Please call me or email to schedule an initial visit or to find out if I will be a good fit for you or your child. If you are planning to bring your child in for services, the first session is for parents only so that you have the opportunity to meet me, discuss your concerns, and discuss how we can work as a team to help your child and family. The second appointment will be the child's first session with me.

HOW OFTEN ARE SESSIONS SCHEDULED?

For therapy to help create change and build the client/ therapist relationship, weekly appointments are encouraged. As you or your child begins to make progress or issues and symptoms decrease, sessions may be spaced out to maintain progress.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Once therapy has begun, please call me to cancel or reschedule an appointment at least 24 hours in advance. If you are unable to call within this time frame, you will be charged $75 for the missed appointment. For a missed appointment with no call, or a no show, your credit card will be charged the full $175 fee since this is a spot that someone else could have been scheduled to fill. If you or your child experiences a life-threatening emergency, please go to your nearest emergency room or call 911. Otherwise, you may leave a non-urgent message on my voicemail, and I will return your call as soon as possible.

WHAT ABOUT ABSENCES FROM SCHOOL?

I will provide you with a note so your child will have an excused absence.

WHAT SHOULD I TELL MY CHILD ABOUT COMING TO THERAPY?

It is important to prepare your children for their first therapy visit. You can tell your children they will be coming to play and talk with a counselor. There are no wrong or right answers in play therapy. Just ways to share themselves through drawings, games and playful activities. Children will be encouraged to express themselves in a natural, playful way and learn more about how too feel happy more often.

WHAT DOES HEATHER OFFER THAT OTHER THERAPISTS MAY NOT?

In addition to over 20 years of experience in mental health, I offer individual attention and care to each client based on what they need to improve their lives. Each session is designed to fit the needs of each client. Clients can text or email between sessions with questions or concerns. I will offer handouts, recommend books and provide additional planning and coaching sessions when needed.
